The Grandmothers

Author Unknown*

I wrote these stories of the Grandmothers because they have helped me many times in my own life. Perhaps they will help you as well. They are the Grandmothers of the Wheel and they teach us balance

North Grandmother - wisdom
Northwest Grandmother - receptivity
Northeast Grandmother - birth
West Grandmother - release
East Grandmother - vision
Southwest Grandmother - balance
Southeast Grandmother - identity
South Grandmother - growth

Each of these Grandmothers offer you a gift of her wisdom. You can either begin your visit with the Northeast and go around the circle clockwise or simply visit the grandmother of your choice. Many return again and again, whenever they need the gentle support that these Grandmothers offer.

************ ********* ********* ********* ********* ****

North Grandmother
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~
The field is deep in snow and the bare branches of the tree have a fluffy layer of white piled upon them. Inside a cozy fire lit cabin we find an aged crone. It is late but she no longer sleeps well anyway. Soon the deepest sleep before the next awakening will come for her. But this evening gratitude wells up within her as she remembers the blessings that have come her way.
She and her granddaughter are drinking raspberry tea as they talk into the night sharing what is in their hearts. A bond of love across generations is re-affirmed. North Grandmother knows when to listen and when to share her quiet wisdom. As this young woman talks of her mistakes and her regrets, her grandmother' s love and humor helps her to see how unimportant these are in the greater picture.
North Grandmother reminds us to pay attention to such precious moments, the little things that make up our lives. We will find much beauty there. As we attend to this we see our life's possibilities with a clarity that we have never know before.
************ ********* ********* ********* ********* ****
Northwest Grandmother
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~

Northwest Grandmother is bundled warmly as she walks beneath the evening sky. The heavens are crisp and clear and the night is long.

The endless stars are her gateway to vision. Tonight she sees far beyond them, into eternity. Because she has learned to release all expectations she is receptive to the wisdom of the universe.

In the past she would touch this deep wisdom for a fleeting moment.

But each time it would quickly slip away with the busyness of her days. As she has grown older she has been able to hold on to this understanding longer and longer.

This gentle Grandmother helps us know that beyond hate and suffering lies the capacity for unconditional love. She shows us that our ability to dream and create is unlimited.

************ ********* ********* ********* ********* ****

Northeast Grandmother
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~
It is very early in the morning, just a hint of light is in the sky. An old woman is walking across a field. Seeds are just beginning to sprout beneath the ground. New growth is everywhere.
As she walks she seems to become younger and younger and for a moment she looks like a little girl who is seeing this early spring world for the first time. Her eyes look young and filled with awe as she looks at the beauty around her.
She is Northeast Grandmother and her gift is in showing us life as brand new. This is not her first time around the wheel. She has traveled it many times. She offers us the wisdom of viewing life as ever fresh and full of renewed hope. She guides us when we anticipate new experiences as she reminds us of the unlimited possibilities that lie before us.
************ ********* ********* ********* ********* ****
West Grandmother
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~

The sun is setting leaving beautiful reflections of pink and peach on the clouds above. An old woman sits beneath the tree on a blanket of russet and amber leaves. As she retreats into darkness she holds her shawl tightly around her against the chill in the air and wraps herself in solitude.

Many times she has railed against the injustices and pain to be found in her life. She has clung desperately to the old until circumstances have forced her through illness or crisis to at last let go. These lessons have not been easy ones. But they have built a great deal of endurance, strength, and courage within her.

She helps us learn to accept our losses and reminds us that life is ever changing. She nurtures us with her understanding that we must honor our need to grieve so that our tears may cleanse and renew us.

We learn that beyond these losses lies a deep connection to the universe.

************ ********* ********* ********* ********* ****

East Grandmother
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~
A lively old women is coming our way. She seems to dance across the field. Spring is in full bloom with a profusion of colors. The fragrance is wonderful. It is mid morning and a gentle breeze gives us a sense of being alive and ready to engage in the day.
This grandmother is the sort of woman who is unafraid to travel about seeing the world and meeting new people. Today she sees a world of life and beauty in this meadow. She is playful and always seems to totally enjoy herself no matter what she is doing.
But don't assume the playfulness indicates a lack of depth. Remember that she has been around the wheel many times before. East Grandmother brings us fresh new perspectives and helps us with letting go of the shoulds that limit our creativity. She reminds us to be flexible and to pay attention to the miracle of beginnings.
************ ********* ********* ********* ********* ****
Southwest Grandmother
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~

It is afternoon and we find yet another grandmother out in the late summer field. She is unhurriedly picking berries while quietly chatting with a young mother. This woman is worried and unsure about where to go with her life just now. The love and understanding she is receiving from this old one is much needed nourishment.

The grandmother' s young companion wonders how someone so old could be so ever present in the moment, enjoying every little sound and fragrance as well as the beauty of the day. She does not yet realize that Grandmothers know how to live in the now.

Southwest Grandmother reminds us that our set backs are opportunities to develop wisdom and discernment. She teaches us that when we pay attention we will find a way to walk toward balance.

************ ********* ********* ********* ********* ****

Southeast Grandmother
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~
It is late morning and we see that an elderly woman has paused for a moment. She stands beneath a tree enjoying the beauty around her. She has a quiet assurance about her that tells us she knows who she is and what she believes. Don't let her quietude fool you though. She will fight without fear for what she thinks is good and right.
She has traveled the wheel many times and has not always met the Southeast in this guise. At times she has been helpless, angry, arrogant or manipulating. But now she glows with the beauty of her true self.
Like her, each time we meet this place on the wheel we present different aspects of our ego. Southeast Grandmother reminds us to stop and notice what we are reflecting to the world. As we begin to follow our heart, instead of living our life according to the expectations of others, we too begin to radiate our beauty.
Move on to South Grandmother
************ ********* ********* ********* ********* ****
South Grandmother
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~

We find ourselves in the fullness of summer. Out in the field a group of children are sitting beneath the tree eating lunch and talking happily to a grandmotherly woman. She glows with warmth and love for each one of them.

As she enjoys a picnic with these little ones she encourages a child who is drawing a picture of a flower, hugs another one who has just come up to her with open arms, and then comforts another who has fallen and scraped his knee.

She understands that children must know they are loved and must learn to trust in their own abilities. Her sparkling laughter frees them from fear of taking risks as they learn from their experiences.

South Grandmother nurtures us as well. Through her gentle humor she helps us realize that our mistakes are never as important as we think.

OUR  FRIENDS  FROM  THE  GEM  KINGDOM

by Mickey Hanson

“The Crystal Lady” from Crystal Light Source

CRYSTALS

For most of my life rocks and minerals have fascinated me, so it was no surprise that I  become a collector of these gifts from the earth. My earliest childhood recollections are of picking up any “pretty stones” I happened to come upon. In both grade and high schools my science projects were always on rocks and minerals. I enjoyed doing all the research as I learned to identify stones through the Golden Rock and Mineral books.

As I went along in life and had a family, it was a joy to share the passion of what I had learned about the wonders from Mother Earth with my children. Through the years we took many trips to various collecting areas in Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado. These trips resulted in us having a large pile of agates and other “pretty rocks” living on the patio of our home.

As the years passed, my interest and fascination grew. Finally in 1991 I went to work for a company that sold crystal jewelry and I learned even more. I first noticed that different people were drawn to different stones. I began to experiment for myself on myself. I picked up a piece of green gemstone which I thought was Tourmaline. The intense feeling that came from the stone really surprised me. An electric type shock shot up my arm, and it felt like I had a helicopter propeller on the top of my head. When I set the stone down the feelings stopped. I picked it up again and the electric shock and “propeller” returned. The next day I told my boss about my fascinating experience. First I found that I’d been mistaken about the type of stone. Instead of Tourmaline it was actually Moldavite, a very interesting tektite from Moldavia (Czechoslovakia) which would have had a very different effect than Tourmaline.  That fact piqued my interest even more. He then introduced to me to a book about the “energy of the stones” and how they were used to help people heal. This new knowledge filled in a big piece of my life puzzle as I realized that all those years I’d picked up stones because they did make me feel better, calmer, more centered and balanced when I held them.

Later I had an opportunity to work at a mineral and crystal store. The gentleman I worked with there taught me even more about the rocks I’d loved all of my life. From my own experience I have come to believe each person is attracted to the stone they need most. Interestingly enough, each stone reacts differently to each different person. One type of stone may get very hot in one person’s hand while to the next person it feels very cool. It seems to be the same principle as when our bodies crave certain foods.

In “OUR FRIENDS FROM THE GEM KINGDOM” series I would like to share with you stones that are good to carry on your person, place in your home or car, or give to someone who just needs a little extra something..

Our first FRIEND is Quartz, a hard and durable stone, which man has used for centuries. Quartz comes in a variety of types and colors. The color in quartz comes from the impurities present as the hot silica cools and crystals form and mass.

I’ll start with Clear Quartz Crystals, a fairly common stone  found in the ground in almost all of the states in one form or another. It can be clear crystals, mass rocks, found within other rocks such as granite and as sand. The clearer the Crystal is the fewer impurities it has. It can be shaped into artistic pieces, sharpened to cut or just be enjoyed for the beauty of the Crystals. It can be used as a focusing tool for healing energy or to bring rainbows into a room. Quartz attracts energy, filtering out the bad and amplifying the good. It can be programmed to match the intent of the person using it. In other words, you can ask it for assistance – to help you complete something, attract a new project or to repel unpleasant situations. It can also return any negative energy to the person from whom it came.  Quartz is a silicone amplifier which has quite a variety of uses:

In Radios to improve response to frequency

In Watches for more accurate timekeeping

In Computers as vessels and bowls

In Utensils and Lasers

Lab grown Quartz was developed during the Cold War to use as lenses in the smart bombs.

KYANITE

One of the lesser known, but no less important, stones used in energy work is a beautiful blue stone called Kyanite. Unique Properties:

It is known to not retain any negative energy so can be used to cleanse other stones.

It is often found with Quartz, which amplifies the effectiveness of the soft blue energy.

Its blue color corresponds to the fifth chakra so it is useful for clarity of thought and communication.

Often when people who are not used to having so many crystals together in one place come in to La De Da (the home of Crystal Light Source in Las Vegas, Nevada), the energy they feel is overwhelming. I give them a small piece of Kyanite to smooth out the energy and bring them back into balance.

On the geological side, Kyanite is also somewhat unique. Along one axis it has a hardness of 2. On the other axis it has a hardness of 7. Beautiful glowing cabochons and faceted stones are cut from the most translucent pieces.

Kyanite with quartz is also found with another stone that strengthens the protective nature of this stone.  Occasionally rubies are found as a part of this beautiful blue, bladed stone.  Blue Kyanite can be used in meditations to soothe and cleanse the chakras. It balances the Yin-Yang energies and can also be used to remove or dispel energy blockages.

There is also Black Kyanite. It is found in wonderfully interlaced fans with much smaller blades. It is believed that if you hold a piece of Black Kyanite in one hand and a piece of Blue in the other that your charkas are spontaneously balanced and aligned.

The Kyanite at La De Da is available in a variety of sizes from very small to quite large (at 10 plus pounds). It all comes from the beautiful country of Brazil, so some pieces actually contain rubies.

We at La De Da look forward to introducing you to this wonderful member of the Gem Kingdom.

Depression

by By Dan Schmucker

Depression comes in a myriad of ways

In a rainbow-like array of shades of bleak and gray, to anyone, anywhere, and at anytime.

It may be started by something as small as a frown from another...

Self-doubt can be reared from an over-heard snicker intercepted on its way to the intended hearer.

Self-condemnation can emerge from believing only the defeats, and few or none of the victories

Brought on by seeds of discontent with Self, watered when others act in ways we did not think they would... sprout when news arrives - layoff from work, contracted illness, diagnosed disease, death, discord sounding in a previously harmonious relationship.

Depression may come through a series of events, minor and miniscule in their individual composition, but magnified and antagonistic, synergistic in unison, close in time or spread out in a span of years - even decades... remember that any flood is a composite of individual drops.

Honest self-evaluation can cripple if it is not embraced with the warmth of Forgiveness.

Even the strong man

the model

the athlete

the Chief Executive Officer

the rich heir

the star of movies or music

can fall

In the swamp of depression, darkness gnaws at Hope and Faith.

The sensation of heaviness of the Soul weighs in on that which used to bring joy and smiles

The experience of thirst for true warmth and seeking Living Water in a parched desert of failure and loss, indifference and loneliness drains the Heart

Given time or the right soil, the essential ingredients for hopelessness and thoughts of Death are tolerated, even entertained. They are the demons who meet us in the street, with whom we fight dawn to dusk, until we grow weary and say, "You can have the street, but stay out of my yard." Only to find them awaiting us when we arise in the morning... the battle commences again and we fight again until our strength is depleted, and we say, "You can have the yard, but stay out of my home." And when we awake, they are inside our dwelling.

"I can't go on like this."

"It's too much."

"It's hopeless."

"I've lost everything."

You have come to a place where the cry of your Soul is "It's over." and "I'm finished."

Everything in you is screaming out that you need to Die

Everything in you says you can't go on like this...

The only voice you hear is confirming you need to cease existing

Whatever event

Whatever circumstance

  Whatever heart ache or heart break

Whatever disaster

Whatever combination or series of events that brought your Soul to it's knees-

Know this-

Hear this-

Listen with your Soul:

It is not your Body that needs to die

Maybe it is the way you are Living that needed to come to this place.

You need a Meaning. A Purpose. A Direction...

Not the platitudes of Death, but the Words held in the arms of Truth-

In the arms of your Maker.

God does not love you because you are all right - He loves you because He chose to love you.

You have come to a place of ending, but not only to a place of ending.

It can be a place of Beginning. Of starting over fresh. Of becoming the Person you were designed to be, instead of however you see yourself, or whatever you have been, for whatever reason or combination of reasons.

Maybe the old person- the one I had become really does need to come to an end, so the person I was Designed to be can arise.

If you have come to that place - of Surrender. of giving in, of giving up, of Surrender...

Give in to the Spirit of Life.

Give up to God.

Let Him in.

Wave the white flag of surrender to Jesus Christ.

Let Him take over.

Let Him start to build your life.

Let His Care

His Forgiveness

His Healing

His Love

Wash your battered castle of sand into the Ocean of His greatness and Hope.

Realize:

"This can be both the burial site of my old self, and the birth place of the Person God intends for me to be."

You have talents and abilities, even though you may not be aware of them, or know why you possess them. They are there for reasons and purposes well known to your Maker. Your Creator knows why you exist. Your Maker knows why you came to this place, and where to go from here.

Let Him be the Great Artist He is and sculpt your life into the significance for which it was designed.

The Awesome, Wonderful
Pendulum, a Testimonial

A Testimonial By Wanda Bartsch

I don’t pretend to know much about pendulums, but I do know the things I witnessed using one.

I did know that, when you are in the proper frame of mind, a pendulum can answer “yes” and “no” questions.  Holding the pendulum chain between the thumb and the center finger, ask the pendulum which direction it will swing for the answer “yes”.  Then, holding it in the same manner, ask it which direction it will swing for the answer “no”.  Note the directions, either toward and away from you or from side to side.  Ask a question that can be answered by yes or no.  Concentrate on the question only.  Your mind must have no affirmative or negative thoughts to influence the pendulum.  One day I was asking if a package I’d ordered would arrive.  The pendulum said yes.  Just then, I heard the UPS truck go past, not stopping.  I was calling the pendulum all sorts of bad names.  It was still swinging “yes”.  The UPS truck rounded the next corner, came back and delivered my package.

Another day I was asking questions.  I had leaned forward, the pendulum was hanging over my knees.  It started to swing in circles.  I thought, “What does that mean; I don’t know?”  I had bought a book called “Pendulum Power”, which I had put away for future reference.  So, I got it out.  It says swinging in a counter-clockwise circle indicates illness, an affliction or an aberration in the area directly beneath the pendulum.  Swinging in a clockwise motion while holding it over an area indicates wellness.  This forewarned me of arthritis in my knees.

Another time, I had fallen and was left with a very sore spot in my hip.  For about two months I was almost dragging that leg – it was so painful.  While using the pendulum, I was concentrating on the pain in my hip and asked the pendulum if it could do anything to alleviate the pain or fix the hip.  I felt a hot searing pinpoint of pain do a zigzag pattern about 3/8 of an inch wide and three inches long right at that place on my hip.

I have never had any pain in that area again.  That was fifteen years ago.

The Link

By Brenda Abrigo-Rich

A question to those readers who have pets: Have you ever had your precious pet/animal friend come to you when you were sick, depressed or out of sorts? They lay a paw on you, head butt you, rub against you or lay their head in your lap. They meow or whine or make their unique vocals to see if you are okay, or just curl up on you and cuddle, showing you that you are still loved.
I am sure the answer is yes; because my 3 cats, my beautiful babies, have shown that love to me. Why do I ask? Because that action shows you that they are attuned to your energy, just as they are attuned to the energies of the earth. You’ve seen it. They react to the changing weather, or the changing earth; and they react to your changing moods and health.
This is the energy of which I wish to speak. That energy moves both ways. You can give it back to them, and feel when they are out of sorts, helping them recover. Don’t be afraid of touch, although you don’t have to touch them to heal or soothe them in their distress or anytime. Yet don’t be surprised at their reaction when they actively feel the energy flowing back to them.
I will tell you my way. This has been developing in my life, and it is interesting that some of the techniques I’ve been using are in many Reiki books.
First, I speak to my animals. Even if what they hear is nonsense to them, they hear the tone. If you have a calm soothing tone, it will calm their energies. I touch my animals, caress them gently, and brush them when they wish it, or just let them lie on me for the contact. I try to use some of their mannerisms with them. I have three cats; they come to me and put their heads to me or touch noses. Thus, when I go to them, I try to do the same to show a type of respect. Now, I’m not saying to say hello with a sniff to the tail, but I am saying to use a touch or a non-threatening gesture similar to those that the animal uses naturally.
When you consider your actions to your animal, you must research and know the animal. We, as “stewards” of the earth, have domesticated these wondrous creatures; thus we have taken on the responsibility as their guardians, their lead, their pack leader, the alpha. We have to respect that responsibility. Instead of forcing them into our social structure, we need to understand theirs and their nature. For example, cats are independent yet in domestic cats and some larger ones (lions, for instance) there are “pride” or family type groupings with innate, defined social interactions. Dogs are definite pack animals, even the more independent ones like the coyote and fox. Whether it be a horse, snake, dog, cat, bird, down to a gerbil, one can help with energy. Even the insect pets some of our children have can receive energy from us, but again we must be aware how our energy affects them.

  Take a moment and try it. When calm and at peace feel the energy flowing from you, whether it is from your hands or from your heart chakra, to your pet. See if they don’t turn to look at you, come to your side, begin to purr or react in some way. Build trust by touching and massaging your pet. Being a biologist, I know some of the anatomy of the animals of which I speak, so following their muscular structure when massaging is easy for me. Usually go with the lay of the fur or scales. Yes, I said scales. I had a snake that loved massages. He seemed attracted to the warmth of my hands.
Begin to feel the energy cycles of your pets. As you sit, relaxing in front of the TV, put your furbaby on your lap; or, if your pet is a Bull Mastiff, lie down on the floor with him. Place your hand on his/her ribcage and feel the rhythm of her/his breathing. Close your eyes and breathe in time with your pet. Feel the pulse of your animal’s body. Connect on a physical level to those energies.
Be aware of your companion’s moods. When he/she comes to you, be open and accepting. How else can you know if it is your pet who needs you right then for some compassion? Hold your baby. Close your eyes. Open your heart and mind to the energy coming from them. Feel what they are feeling. Allow your energies to mingle. Send them loving, positive thoughts.
Don’t forget to think before you react. Case in point: If a dog accidentally goes to the bathroom in the house, whose fault is it truly? Not the dog’s. That is a natural, biological act. It is our fault for not being responsible for the dogs needs. We need to work out a reasonable schedule wherein they know to go outside and when to do so, thus their biology can adapt to our environment. A cat coughing up a hairball is natural. He didn’t mean to leave it on a special place on your pillow. Our responsibility for grooming and proper feeding are again the issue. If you are truly the alpha in the relationship, they will not feel the need to “stake out” their territory, for your territory is theirs.

Know your animal, love your friend, and exchange the energy we all share.

Crystals: Care and Feeding

by Bobbi Bartsch Curtis

Crystals are a gift from the Earth, Mother Earth, Mother Nature, God, The Universal One, The Goddess – however you view it, whatever you call your Higher Power, they are forms from nature and part of the basic makeup of our planet.  They deserve respect, care and special handling.  They were here before we were, forming long before the first bits of protoplasm crawled from the primordial ooze and proclaimed, “I am (wo)man!”  They are VIP’s gifted to us to use for the greater good of all.  We are their caretakers; and they, in turn, impart their many gifts to us – their energy, their stored knowledge, their spiritual integrity, their abilities.  Crystals heal, teach, amplify the individual’s abilities, create energy, transmute or dissipate negativity, elevate the spirit and create atmospheres conducive to the improvement of the Earth and all its inhabitants – if used correctly and with the proper intent.  Our pathways converged many eons ago and will continue as long as we understand their nature and their power and continue to use them properly.

We do not own crystals.

We do not choose the crystals that come to us.

We are their caretakers, and they choose us.

Preparing your Stones

Clearing:

Crystals store vibrations.  The vibrations can come from any number of sources – light, thought, sound, touch, to name a few.  When you first acquire your crystals, after healing work, when you feel that they are storing something that you do not want stored or when they look dull or feel sluggish, it’s time for a clearing.  There are several methods of clearing.  Try them all and use the one that feels the most comfortable to you or seems the most effective for your stone.  I use a variety of methods, using intuition to feel what individual crystals need.  Some folks use the salt water method which, though effective, requires knowledge of the difference between friable and not friable stones.  Salt can damage the surface of some crystals and some others are water soluble, Selenite for instance.  In order to keep your stones safe without going through a long list of what kinds can handle salt and/or water or not, many crystal experts recommend using other methods that are less likely to cause damage.

Azeztulite, Citrine and Kyanite are self-cleaning.  Clear Quartz clusters, Carnelian and Blue Kyanite can be used to clean other stones.  Simply place the crystals needing cleared on the cluster or on the Kyanite for 12 to 24 hours.  Carnelian can be placed inside a bag containing other stones for the same time period to cleanse them.  The quartz and the Carnelian will require cleansing by another method after the process is complete.

Breath Method:  Ground and center yourself.  Make your intention to cleanse your crystal clear in your mind.  Sit in a comfortable position and hold your crystal in your left hand between the thumb and forefinger, thumb on the bottom.  Now place the thumb of your right hand on any face of the crystal and the right forefinger on the opposite face.  As you hold your stone, form the intent of clearing it in your mind.  Breathe in deeply through your nose.  Blow the air out of your mouth with forceful intent at the crystal, as if you were blowing your intention to clear the crystal with your breath.  Now move the thumb of your right hand to the next face of the crystal and moving your right forefinger to the next respective face of the crystal.  Again breathe in deeply through your nose and forcefully, sending your intention to clear the crystal, blow the air out through your mouth directly at the crystal.  Keep your intention for clearing your stone upper most in your mind, allowing your breath to carry your intention to the stone.  Continue in this manner until all faces have been attended to.

Visualization Method:  Ground and center yourself.  Make your intention to cleanse your crystal clear in your mind.  Sit in a comfortable position and hold your crystal in the palm of your dominant hand.  Visualize it surrounded by white light, allowing the light to remove all negativity and any unwanted energies.  Continue in this fashion until you feel the revitalization of the stone and until it is no longer cloudy or dull.  This method requires complete concentration and no interruptions.

Smudging Method:  Ground and center yourself.  Light sage, cedar or sweetgrass incense and start it smoldering.  Make your intention to clear your crystal your predominant thought.  Hold the crystal between the thumb and forefinger of your dominant hand and move the crystal through the smoke for several minutes until it appears clear.  A good test of this is to hold the crystal where the smoke will rise to it.  If the smoke avoids the crystal, continue to move it through the smoke for a few more minutes.  Test it again to see if the smoke surrounds the crystal or moves away from it.  When the smoke surrounds the crystal (make sure there are no fans going in the room that will effect the direction that the smoke is blowing) it is cleared.

Singing Bowl Method:  Ground and center yourself.  Place your stones in a singing bowl and follow the instructions for the bowl.  The sound vibrations will clear our crystals.  This method comes highly recommended by those who use it.  It tends to provide a deeper cleansing, reaching all the way to the center of the stone.  It also charges stones at the same time.

Charging:

After performing any of the clearing methods above except the Singing Bowl Method, your crystal now requires charging, similarly to charging a battery.  The most recommended method is to leave your crystals on a windowsill for 24 hours.  Optimum charging comes from the crystal receiving energy from both the sun and the moon.  It is most beneficial to charge during the Full Moon, although it is possible for charging to take place during other moon phases, as long as there is some moon light.

Dedicating:

Ground and center yourself.  Hold your crystal in both hands in front of you.  Picture it surrounded by white light – light a candle to help the visualization.  Say out loud to your stone, “I dedicate this crystal to the greatest good of all.  May it be used in light and love.”

Programming:

You are now ready to program your crystal.  Plan ahead of time for what each specific crystal will be used.  Choose tasks that are relevant to the crystal itself so that its full energy can be put into the job you will be assigning to it (click here for a partial listing).  Be specific about your needs and wants.  How do you want this crystal to help you, someone else, or the planet?  If you will be using it for healing, be specific about the part of the body and the problem with which you need help.  If you are using it for self-improvement, be specific about the quality(ies) you are intending to enhance.  Light a candle of the color that corresponds to your intent for the crystal.  Ground and center yourself.  Hold your crystal in both hands or place both hands on the crystal.  Attune to your crystal.  When you feel ready, concentrate on exactly what you want your crystal to do – be specific.  State, “I program this crystal for [the purposes you have determined].”  Allow stray thoughts to go back out of your mind and concentrate on the purpose for your crystal.  As you concentrate on what you want your crystal to do, breathe in through your nose and breathe your purpose for your crystal out through your mouth, sending the intention into your crystal with your breath.  Continue to visualize its purpose as you continue to breathe in through the nose and out, at the crystal, through your mouth, sending your intention with each outward breath.  Continue until you feel that the crystal is ready.  Now pass the crystal from right to left through the flame of the candle to seal in the intention.

Your crystal is now ready to use.  It will hold the programming that you gave it until the next time you clear it.  Remember that your crystal needs to be cleared, charged and re-programmed after healing work, when you feel that it is storing something that you do not want stored or when it looks dull or feels sluggish.

The Power Within and Around You

Cleansing, Activating, Balancing and Aligning Your Chakras

by Bobbi Bartsch Curtis

We are all aware that our nervous systems run by electrical impulses.  We also know that an electrical impulse creates a field of energy.  The obvious then must stand true that we live within our own fields of this energy.  According to quantum physics, everything is energy – all matter (of which we are made up) is energy.  So, let’s agree that our bodies are bodies of energy.  We should be able to assume that since the brain, being the largest concentration of nerve tissue in our bodies, would be an energy center, and that our spinal columns, having another large concentration of nerve tissue, would have, along its route through the vertebrae, other energy centers.  The rest of the body, to one degree or another, would also have energy centers of some degree or another, depending on the concentration of energy at each point.   Since we radiate this energy (the electrical energy field we talked about in the second sentence), we should again be able to assume that there are others of these energy centers within some close proximity to our physical bodies.  These energy centers are known as Chakras.

Traditionally, the major Chakras are seven in number:  Base, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Brow and Crown.  There are three other important Chakras:  Earth, Higher Heart and Higher Crown.  We now have 10 in all.  According to many sources, there are also a myriad of other minor Chakras throughout the body, but we will be dealing with only the 10 mentioned here.  Disharmony is the result of either blocked or overactive Chakras.  There are numerous methods to realign and balance the Chakras, creating positive, healthy energy for a well-rounded life.  Most methods include purposeful breathing techniques, visualization, sound vibrations, color vibrations, purposeful intent and meditation, fragrance relationships and healing crystal vibrations, which are  connected to the color vibrations.

A deep, relaxing breathing technique, such as Central Column Breathing, is useful to begin your cleansing and balancing exercise.  (This is also an excellent technique to use prior to meditation, to relax before going to sleep, and to revitalize at the start of the day – among other things.)  Briefly, this involves being seated comfortably, legs uncrossed if in a chair, finding your breathing pattern while breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth, opened slightly.  Then, begin to breathe in as if the influx of air were coming in from the top of your head, filling your body as it goes down.  At a natural point, begin to exhale as though the air were exiting down through the body and out the soles of the feet.  Repeat this exercise five times.  Next, change to breathing up from the earth beneath, up through the body and exhaling through the top of your head.  Repeat five times.   Remain relaxed and unstrained.   Now, breathe in from the top of your head on the first breath sequence and then in from the earth on the second breath sequence, alternating each sequence for five minutes.   This exercise clears the central column of your body and prepares it for meditation and healing.

The next step in a rather uncomplicated method of balancing and aligning the Chakras is to lie flat, placing appropriate crystals below, above and on your body positioned at the Chakra centers for approximately 20 minutes and relaxing into a meditative state with the intention of balancing and aligning.  The chart below shows both the position and some suggested stones to use for optimal healing.  Have the stones pre-selected and nearby when you begin the breathing technique so that you are able to go straight from the breathing position into the meditative position, not losing the benefits of the breathing technique before the stone placement.  (Stones should be cleared, charged and programmed with the proper intent prior to usage.)

Chakra Candle Sets

Incense Sets

SCPE has designed sets of Chakra Mats that are cleared, charged and ready for you to program (since we believe that programming should be done by the individual who will use them).  These are easy to use and manipulate and are comfortable for Chakra layouts with placement either on top of or under the body.

I have purposely (for the sake of space and your time) kept this discussion as short and to the point as I possibly could.  There are numerous books that go into extensive detail and offer many methods, exercises and in depth descriptions of means by which to cleans, balance, heal, sedate, activate, align, etc. the Chakras.  Ruth White’s Using Your Chakras  is one very helpful example.  The Complete Crystal Guidebook  by Uma Silbey contains several sections with exercises, meditations and tips on Chakra good health.

Wishing you the best of health in body, mind and spirit.
